TOEFL Test Modules

The TOEFL Assessment contains four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing.

Reading
The TOEFL reading section will contain 3 to 4 passages. Each passage will contain 3 to 5 questions. The questions will require you to read, analyze and comprehend the ideas conveyed in the passage. This part of the TOEFL test will need you to complete the answers within 60 to 70 minutes. The questions may ask you to identify a purpose, classify information, recognize the author’s main point, or just show comprehension of content information. Additionally, the questions may also request you to define relationships, draw conclusions, compare and contrast different statements made in the passage.
Listening
The TOEFL Listening section of the TOEFL Examination is designed to assess and measure a candidate's ability to comprehend spoken English. This section evaluates whether a tester can understand the lectures they would hear during their course of study. Basic English comprehension and pragmatic understanding are two key aspects of this section. Test takers will be presented with audio clips of both lectures and conversations, and will be required to answer rational questions based on the clips.
Speaking
In the TOEFL speaking section, you need to speak for 45 to 60 seconds in 1st and 2nd task whereas for task 3 and 4 you need to speak for 60 to 90 seconds each. The key to earning a good score in the speaking section is to use the most accurate grammar and most appropriate words for the given tasks. You have to be well-prepared and be able to communicate effectively in the given time.
Writing
The TOEFL writing section is designed to evaluate an applicant's ability to write in an academic setting. The independent writing task requires applicants to present a summary of their past experiences and opinions on a writing topic. The integrated writing task tests applicants on their ability to listen to a short passage or lecture and then summarize what they heard. The Writing section is worth 25% of one's total TOEFL score and is graded on the quality of an applicant's grammar, language usage, planning and organizing skills.

TOEFL Eligibility

The TOEFL exam is open to every student and worker who would like to prove their language proficiency in English. The eligibility criteria are very lenient as no age limit, academic qualification, or work experience is required to be eligible for taking the test. However, the test takers must have valid photo ID proof for taking the test. It is recommended for students to take the test after completing their class 10 or class 12 from a recognized board. Though there are no minimum or maximum age requirements, the candidates are expected to have knowledge as per university level, so it is preferred that the students take the test after completing their high school.
